Legislative Report Feb. 22, 2013

Published by McDaniel, Joyce on

This week we are sending you (by attachment) the complete list of legislation that WPC is tracking this year. This list is long and may be a little overwhelming, but we want you to see the range of issues we try to monitor in some way, shape or form. Soon, the WPC board will develop a priority list and determine WPC positions on the priority bills. (Once we do so, we will send you that list, and it will be shorter.)

I hope you will take a look at the complete list of bills this one time. If there are bills of particular interest to you, we want to know about them. Fortunately, we are now past the bill filing deadline!

A little orientation may help before you take a look at the list.

  • You can link to any bill by using either the bill number or the PDF link.
  • To access a more complete summary of the bill, go to www.capitol.tn.gov and enter the bill # under “bill search.” That will pull up a summary, a complete list of sponsors and co-sponsors and, if there is one, a fiscal note.
  • Under “status” on our list, most of the bills show the Senate and House committees to which the bills have been assigned. If and when you want to do so, you can go to www.capitol.tn.gov and access those committees to see exactly who serves on them and will decide the fate of the legislation.
  • I have highlighted in yellow the status of bills that are scheduled for committee consideration next week. We use a subscription service that automatically tells us if the status of a bill has changed. (That’s pretty handy when you are tracking so many.)

One final comment – I have just noticed that one bill we are tracking, the mandatory ultra-sound bill mentioned in our Feb. 8 report, is inadvertently not on this list. It will be added and will appear in the future. There has been quite a bit of press about that bill, so if you have not taken the time to look at it yet, you can see it here.

I hope to see many of you at our 2013 Women’s Day on the Hill, which is March 20. More information on that soon!
